Cinnamon Sugar Amish Bread
This Cinnamon Sugar Amish Bread is a soft, buttery quick bread with a tender crumb, a sweet cinnamon-sugar swirl, and a crisp, sugary topping. It’s incredibly easy to make—no yeast and no kneading required!
📝 Ingredients
For the Bread:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
For the Cinnamon Sugar:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
👩🍳 Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Make the batter: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then mix in the buttermilk and vanilla.
- Add the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Don’t overmix.
- Prepare the cinnamon sugar: Combine ½ cup sugar with the cinnamon.
- Layer: Pour about half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle generously with about half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Add the remaining batter and finish with the remaining cinnamon sugar on top.
- Create the swirl: Run a butter knife gently through the batter in a few simple strokes to create a cinnamon swirl.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10–15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack. Allow it to cool before slicing.
🍎 Helpful Tips
- Don’t overmix the batter, or the bread can become dense.
- For an extra-crunchy top, sprinkle a little additional cinnamon sugar over the loaf before baking.
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a delicious nutty variation.
- The bread is especially good slightly warm with a little butter.
